Selecting The Right Mattress
How to select the perfect mattress
Buying a mattress is one item that you should
always shop for in person. Online shopping usually saves you
money but when it comes to mattress shopping personal shopping
is the way to go so that you can try before you buy.
There are three points to consider when shopping for a mattress
The Size you require. This of course will depend on your own requirements and space that you have.
Normally mattresses come in four sizes:
-
KING 76” X 80”
-
QUEEN 60” X 80”
-
FULL 53” X 75”
-
TWIN 38” X 75”
The thickness of the mattress. This would
depend on your choice as well as the bed frame you are using.
There are some real thick mattresses out there today. You don't
want to be using a ladder to climb on to the bed!
Remember just because a mattress is thick does not mean it’s
going to be
more comfortable.
Some bed frames require a box spring and some
don't. So decide what is
preferable when you go out shopping for a mattress.
The firmness of the mattress is also
something you need to decide yourself. The salesmen can't help
you. The best way is to try several mattresses in the store by
lying down comfortable on them and see what you prefer. Most
people shy away from trying mattresses for more than a minute or
so. Do take your time as this is one item you can't carry back
to the store for an exchange. So spend time in testing the
comfort and feel of the mattresses you are considering to buy.
Some sales will rush you by saying they offer a exchange policy
within 15
days or so. Don't fall for this, you want to test before you
make your purchase.
While mattress shopping you will hear terms
such as cashmere, memory
foam, latex foam, pillow top, coil count, coil gauge etc. Listen
carefully to
sales personnel and do ask questions. If they are trying to sell
you on the
memory foam, ask if the mattress will sag over a point of time
on certain
spots. If they can't answer your questions then perhaps you
should shop
somewhere else.
